Seniors first win, Local Juniors compete in action packed games and penalty drama to end the 16-17 A

Our Maryborough Seniors have notched up their first win of the season on the weekend, defeating the Buninyong redbacks by 6 goals to 2. The side was able to come back from being 2-1 down at half time to win the second half 5-0 and take away the three points. Michael Parker was named Maryborough's best and took home the Maryborough Golf Club best on field award. Goalscorers for borough were:

Tom Clinton - 2 Goals

Corey Raats- 1

Riley Gardem - 2

Matt Bundy - 1

The seniors then headed out of the cloudy Ballarat back home to meet up with MSC members and celebrate the win with some quiet drinks at the Maryborough Golf Club. Our members were treated to a thrilling Hyundai A-League grand final which ended with Sydney FC winning the championship, defeating Melbourne Victory in a penalty shootout.

In our local junior competition the Phoenix claimed top spot in the Under 12's by defeating Roar 6-3. It is evident that the team in yellow is ever improving and have become one of the best teams for passing and vision in the competition just 2 weeks into the season. A credit to coach Jay Murdock.

The Jets ended Victory's winning ways defeating them 6-2 in the second Under 12's match for the season.

In the Under 16's both matches were extremely close with all sides putting in a top display.

Glory managed to edge out old time rivals Strikers in an exciting contest with many goal scoring opportunities. Strikers defender Reed Smith almost salvaged a point for his team with a stunning long ranged effort in extra time, only to just miss the target. Strikers came back hard in the second half but couldn't quite take their chances and ended up going down to the Glory 5-4.

The second match saw United defeat Wolves in a close contest, winning by just one goal, 3-2.

We look forward to more soccer action this weekend.

Don't forget this is our seniors first home game, please come down and support if you can, 1:00pm Jubilee on Sunday.
