2018 MSC Under 13's Grand Final Preview

September 6, 2018

After a long and closely contested season, it all comes down to this Saturday for our Junior Under 13's competition. Only two teams remain in the race for the 2018 Champions Title - Roar coached by Bailey Melton and Jets led by Matthew Bundy. This one is shaping up to be one of the closest Grand Finals the club has ever seen with both sides playing an exciting style of game that will make for a thrilling spectacle. If the 2017 Grand Final is anything to go by - A wonder finish to the season by the underdog, Victory to win in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out, the 2018 Grand Final is bound to be a must watch. After the devastation of last year's slim Grand Final loss, the Jets will be looking to ensure this time around, they leave the ground with the Championship Cup firmly in their grasp. The Roar however have been the competition's most consistent outfit and will be looking to claim its first Grand Final win since 2016 after already claiming the 2018 premiership. Their last encounter, back in round 15 saw the Roar win 2-1 in what was spoken about as the most entertaining and evenly contested match all season, can they do it again or will the Jets cause an upset to be victorious in the Maryborough Soccer Club's biggest day?

Lines ups:

Roar:

Jets: Hunter Kurzke, Harrison Kurtzke, Bradley Sproull, Chardy Bond, Mackenzie Meyer, Jaxon Delany, Kaiden Miller, Lucas Miller, Isabella Duell, Jonah Prtichard, Hugo Stevens, Charlotte Boulton and Tristan Koza.

How Roar can win?

For the team in red to get over the line it will be important for their defence to stay well disciplined through the course of the whole match. Mitchell Catto will need to be a rock down back, using his experience in finals to help ensure the sides defensive structure holds firm. One mistake in that defensive line is all the Jets will need to strike on goal. Goal scoring extraordinaire Jayden Brydon will have to be on top of his game, after scoring 16 goals this season alone, he will be the side's go to man if the side is to hit the scoreboard. Brydon must be supported by the silky skilled striker of Thomas Hoban and the tall target up front - Nash Fraser. The combination of these three in the forward line has helped  lead to the Roar claiming the minor premiership and being the most prolific side in front of goals in 2018.  Bailey Melton as coach will be hoping to top off his first season at the helm with a victory on the weekend, expect some key tactical moves throughout the match as his knowledge of the game far exceeds his years of age.

How Jets can win?

For the Jets to claim the championship in 2018 they will need to bring the hunger and determination they showed in their emphatic qualifying final win over the Victory. This side has stayed predominately the same as the one that took to the field in 2017. The memories of last season will be fresh in the minds of the players who will be looking to ensure they finish the season on a high. The front three are key to this match - Hunter, Harrison and Hugo. Watch closely as these three look for each other everytime one of them has the ball. Roar will need to watch the run towards the back post, these three look for space and the Jets have developed a style to suit, looking to take the ball wide before crossing to the back post for a tap in. This is clever play, stretching the defence and has worked well for the side in 2018. The key question is - Will Harrison play goalkeeper? He has proven himself as a stand-out keeper this season which will pose the question to coach Matthew Bundy if the side needs him more either on-field or in goals? The defensive line headlined by Charlotte Boulton and Chardy bond will need to be on top of their game if they are to hold out the dangerous attacking combinations of the Roar. Charlotte has dominated in defense this season and will be a key match up in height to Roar's Nash Fraser. Coach Matthew Bundy will be confident heading into the match, following an incredible second half of the 2018 season by the team which saw the side win 5 out of it's last 7 games, only losing one.

This game will be won purely on determination. As proven in the past, the side with the greatest sideline support will be the victors. Bring out the posters and streamers and ensure you're down at the ground supporting this Saturday!

Good Luck to both sides.
